Surface Area Pyramid Tutors

Surface Area Pyramid Tutors A pyramid is a 3-dimensional geometric figure which consists of 4 triangles along with a base at the bottom. The base of a pyramid can be in different forms like a square or a rectangle. This base of the pyramid is joined by the 4 triangles connecting it to the top most point of the pyramid known as the apex or the vertex of the pyramid. The total surface area of a pyramid is the sum of the areas of each surface and hence can be calculated accordingly. Example 1: What is the surface area of a rectangular pyramid which has a base length of 7m, base width of 5m and a slant height of 10m? Given: base length, l= 7m, base width, w= 5m Slant height, s= 10m The base of a rectangular pyramid is a rectangle. Surface area of the rectangular pyramid= (l* w) + (l* s) + (w* s) This gives: Surface area of the rectangular pyramid, SA= (7* 5) + (7* 10) + (5* 10) = 155m2 Therefore, the surface area of the given rectangular pyramid is 155m2 Example 2: What is the surface area of a square pyramid which has a base length of 6m and a slant height of 9m? Given: base length, b= 6m Slant height of the pyramid, s = 9m The base of a square pyramid is a square. Surface area of a square pyramid = b2 + 2* b* s This gives: Surface area of the square pyramid, SA= (6)2 + (2 * 6 * 9) = 36+ 108= 144m2 Therefore, the surface area of the given square pyramid is 144m2

How To Read Food Labels

How To Read Food Labels Understanding Food Nutrition Labels ChaptersFood Labelling In The UK â€" The BasicsWhat Is The Traffic Light System For Food?Want To Learn More About Food Labelling?Whenever you go into a supermarket, it can feel like a bit of a mission to navigate the shop’s layout, confusing pricing and offers, all while trying to find a meal that is not only nutritious but won’t leave a hole in your wallet.Thankfully, when it comes to looking out for the most nutritious foods in supermarkets, there is help at hand in the form of food labelling standards in the UK.Although the standards don’t cover every type of food sold in the UK (for example, foods that are sold loose are subject to different labelling standards) knowing how to understand food labels, particularly in supermarkets, can prove really useful if you’re looking to purchase better quality food.Learning how to read food labels can lead to better food choices. (Image Source: CC0 1.0, FotoshopTofs, Pixabay)An indication of the product’s overall nutritional quality ; andWhether there are any allergens present in the food.Food that has been packaged contains a lot of information, which can be really helpful to shoppers who want to make more informed choices about the products they buy.Core Labelling RequirementsOverall, there are a few core pieces of information that you’ll find on pre-packaged foods, including the name of the food, its best-before or use-by date, a list of ingredients, special storage instructions (if needed), instructions on how to cook the food (if instructions are necessary), as well as the country of origin for certain products. This list is not exhaustive, as there are other labelling requirements in addition to the above. The country of origin of a food product should be shown for certain meats, such as beef, lamb, pork, and poultry, and the country of origin should also be displayed on packaging for fish and shellfish, wine, olive oil, as well as honey and any fruit or veg that has its origin outside of the European Un ion.List Of IngredientsOne of the most useful aspects of food labelling regulations in the UK is that, where a product has two or more ingredients, a list of all of the ingredients used in that product must be displayed on the packaging.Importantly, the ingredients in a product are listed according to their weight, so that the ingredient with the most weight is listed first, and the ingredient with the least weight is listed last. This means that, when you’re trying to figure out how healthy a particular product may be, a good indicator could well be the ingredients list. For instance, if you pick up a pack of biscuits, you’ll likely notice that sugar is one of the first listed items in the ingredients list â€" clearly not so healthy.Even looking at the labels of meat-based products can provide a good insight into just how processed those products are. For example if, say, a meat pie only actually lists a low percentage of meat in the ingredients, and other items, such as water o r flour, are listed before the weight of the meat, it may indicate that the food has been highly processed. If you’re looking to buy the healthiest products possible, even pre-packaged products, then it can pay to have a quick look at each product’s label and compare them to see which has less processed ingredients or less sugar than the other.Reduction of high-fat foods is a key part of a balanced diet. Looking at food nutrition labels can also help manage a healthy diet. (Image Source: Public Domain, author unknown, Wikimedia Commons)AllergensAside from showing nutrition information, another crucial aspect to food labelling is that any allergens that are present have to be clearly highlighted and made visible to the customer, and they should also form part of the product’s list of ingredients. There are a number of different allergens that have to be highlighted in this way, with a selection of those being:Eggs;Milk;Peanuts or nuts more generally;Gluten-containing cereals, suc h as wheat and oats; andCrustaceans. As such, if you do suffer from a food insensitivity, for example, if you’re gluten intolerant, having such clear allergen labelling can be immensely helpful when shopping, as you should have a good idea whether a food may pose a threat to you or someone you’ll serve the food to.Of course, there are certain products, such as gluten-free, wheat-free, or egg-free certified goods, which can provide complete peace of mind if you know that you have to avoid certain allergens in foods.Although such products are typically more expensive, many supermarkets have their own dedicated aisles or sections for such dietary-specific goods, so it is certainly one way to make your shopping trip less stressful if you do have to be careful of consuming certain ingredients. Are you looking for nutrition courses UK?What Is The Traffic Light System For Food?Another aspect of food labelling that you may see on products is the traffic light labelling system.Products tha t use this system will show information on the front of the packaging to indicate how much of the following is present in their product:Sugar;Salt;Fat;Saturated fat; andCalories.Under the traffic light system, each of the above features is colour coded based on how much salt, sugar, etc. is present per 100g of product. Red colour coding means that there are high levels of that item in the product, amber colour coding means there is a medium amount present, while green means that there is a low amount in the product. The idea behind traffic light labelling is that it should be easier for consumers to determine how healthy a product may be by displaying such a nutrition label. This, in turn, should help them make better informed dietary choices. For instance, a product that is green for all indicators â€" calories, fat, saturated fat, salt, and sugars, would indicate a much healthier choice than a product that was labelled completely in red. Ideally, amounts with a lot of red on their l abel should be eaten in moderation, or in small amounts. Healthier food choices should help reduce health risks such as obesity, as can measures such as eating the correct serving size.It is worth noting that the traffic light labelling system is not mandatory so not all products will feature it, and there are suggestions that the labelling system is far from perfect at present. Nevertheless, it is a tool that can be used to try and make more informed food choices, when it is available.Ultimately, the best way to make the best food choices is to try and ensure that you consume a balanced diet, by eating a combination of carbohydrates, dairy,   vitamins, healthy fats, cereals, and enough calories to suit your energy needs. Equally, unhealthy snacks and foods should only be eaten in moderation, if at all.Minimising foods like butter can lead to a healthier diet. Checking food labels can also help improve the food choices you make. (Image Source: CC0 1.0, congerdesign, Pixabay)Want To Learn More About Food Labelling?Food labelling in the UK is a wonderful tool for shoppers, as it can help them have a better understanding of what exactly they are putting into their mouths. What's more, effective food labelling can help shoppers to try to make the most informed choices when it comes to the nutritional quality of the products they buy, by letting them know about the kind of nutrients within a product, as well as how much a portion of that product will contribute towards a person's daily caloric intake. While the above provides a brief overview of food labelling in the UK, there is, of course, a lot more to learn if you’re interested in finding out more about food regulations in the UK.This is because different regulations apply according to the type of food sold, and how it is sold - for instance, organic foods have to follow a slightly different process compared to non-organic foods when it comes to food labelling. If you would like to learn more about food labellin g standards or are interested in learning more about nutrition in general and how you can feed yourself as well as possible for the best price, then you could reach out to a food nutrition tutor at Superprof.A nutrition tutor can go through the basics of nutrition with you, whether that involves teaching you about the differences between carbs and fats, or whether that extends to discussing more complex nutritional issues.Superprof has a wide range of tutors available who are happy to provide one on one or remote lessons to help you fill in the blanks when it comes to nutrition and eating well. How To Calculate Net Price Of College

How To Calculate Net Price Of College The government recently mandated that all colleges must include a net price calculator on their websites. However, many colleges easily found ways to hide theirs from students, according to an article in theUS News World Report. An accurate net price calculator is designed to give students and exact figure on what they will pay to attend (tuition plus room and board/additional fees subtracted by scholarships and financial aid). The government mandated these because many colleges were tricking prospective students into believing their schools were much more affordable than they actually were. Some colleges keep tuition low, but charge exorbitant amounts for room and board. Other schools publish high tuition fees but give nearly every student a scholarship, making students believe they are getting a better deal than they actually are. However, some colleges simply do not want students to know exactly what they will pay to attend. So, they hid their net price calculators or made them very difficult to find. Lynn OShaughnessy of the US News World Report picked six colleges randomly and searched their websites for their net price calculators. She picked three public colleges and three private institutions. She had a very difficult time finding them. OShaughnessy wrote that your chances of finding net price calculators are slim unless you are dogged about looking for them. Of the six schools OShaughnessy searched, only one, Auburn University, displayed its net price calculator where students could easily find it. Most of the other schools buried it on some random page, or hid it in blocks of text instead of displaying it as a link or on the admissions/financial aid pages. OShaughnessy had to use Google to find one schools net price calculator, which was hidden in a block of text on the scholarship page. At another school, she eventually found the calculator displayed as a small icon in the corner of a webpage. Many schools had cost of attending or similar pages; however, OShaughnessy rarely found the net price calculators there. Another school put its calculator at the bottom of a long page, making it very difficult to find. However, she was able to quickly find some schools by typing net price calculator into their search bars. The net price calculators are great tools for students and their parents. However, very few schools will actually publish their calculators in a logical place, and most schools will force students to dig around for them. But, every college must have one by law; so it is there and you will be able to find it eventually. First, you should try using the schools search box or doing a Google search. Also, by law colleges must make these accurate; however, it is still very difficult to create a completely accurate calculator because scholarships, financial aid and tuition figures are always changing. But, these can give you a good idea of how much you will pay for school.

Eight Essential Strategies for Succeeding on Standardized Tests

Eight Essential Strategies for Succeeding on Standardized Tests Careful preparation and utilizing smart standardized test taking strategies are the first steps to ensuring a high score and success on a standardized test. It is unwise to sit for a standardized test without thorough and thoughtful preparation. This preparation should start early and continue to the testing day to ensure the highest score possible. Some of the most effective standardized test taking strategies include: Giving yourself plenty of time to prepare Cramming for the standardized test is both foolish and ineffective. Your brain needs time to reinforce existing concepts and to connect to new learning. Expecting a few short weeks (or days) of test preparation will be enough is a common mistake made by students. Many students spend months preparing for the test and are incredibly well prepared on assessment day. Planning your preparation Careful preparation should include an established plan to ensure all subject areas are covered. You should also allow time to practice each test section because the types of questions and response formats will vary. Establish a schedule that provides plenty of time to review and practice every section and each subject area. Practicing under testing conditions Simply answering practice questions isnt enough. You should spend some time simulating actual testing conditions. Set aside time in a quiet setting to practice under conditions similar to what youll encounter on the actual testing day. You should also familiarize yourself with the directions and structure of the test during these simulation sessions. Eliminating the unforeseen Dont risk your success on the standardized test by not preparing for the unforeseen. Get plenty of rest before the testing session, have directions to the testing center ready, gather your materials ahead of time, and dont forget to eat so you avoid being hungry. Success on a standardized test will be difficult to achieve if youre rushed, frantic, hungry, or anxious. Previewing the test Before you dive in and begin answering questions you should spend a few moments previewing the test. Glance through the booklet and determine the total number of questions, the type of questions asked, and any potential pitfalls you can identify. Make notes, as allowed, on sections that seem the most difficult or in areas of the test you are concerned about. Using materials wisely You should make good use of the test booklet and scratch paper as allowed under the testing guidelines. Use the test booklet like a workbook as permitted under the directions by circling key phrases, underlining important concepts, drawing a line through incorrect answers, and working the math problems near the test item. Be careful though! Review the testing directions to ensure this allowed. Pacing yourself Since standardized tests are most often designed around a time limitation it is important to pace yourself. You want to complete the exam and ensure you have answered all the questions you definitely know the answer to. If a problem or question seems too hard you should skip it and come back. Youre better off completing all the questions you know for sure instead of dedicating too much time to an unknown question. Using process of elimination Many standardized tests rely on multiple choice questions as the main evaluation tool. You can employ a process of elimination strategy when answering multiple choice questions. If you are unsure of an answer take a moment to eliminate the options you know are incorrect. Cross them out and then refocus on the remaining answers. Youre more likely to choose a correct answer if youve eliminated ones you know are incorrect. This also cuts down on careless mistakes that can negatively affect your score. What are some additional standardized test taking strategies that youve found especially beneficial?
